This isn't the kind of item I normally post but there's a personal connection that goes back several years. The genesis of the matter and course of events since then is more confusing than may be worth repeating, so I'll just say that fake MySpaces have been ubiquitous since they began. For celebrities this may or may not be a challenge depending on their level of interest in exposing posers and/or their fans' misfortune in being taken in by them.
One such celebrity, the actor Logan Lerman, has been the "victim" of such posers in the form of alleged MySpaces and, more recently, a Twitter. I could write a thousand word rant on my anger at such fakery and how fans are duped but I'll save that for another time.
What's important here is that fans of this increasingly popular actor have been fooled into thinking that certain sites are officially run by him. I saw him at the World Premiere of Meet Bill at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival and asked him personally whether or not he had a MySpace, and he assured me he did not. Yet my word is only as good as those who believe me, and the questions persisted.
More recently a Twitter was created with his name attached to it. I spoke directly with his management who, again, verified that the MySpaces and Twitter were fake. This appeased many fans but the doubt remained. For many, the only proof would be an actual video from Logan himself stating the truth.
I finally obtained that video last night. Hopefully this puts the matter to rest.
For 20 years I was a professional in the entertainment industry, from commercial broadcast radio in America's fourth largest market to band management to record production. But my passion is independent film, and I spend much of the year traveling to film festivals to see indies and meet the actors, directors, and others responsible for creating them. I'm a writer, photographer, and videographer, currently serving as Senior Vice President for Media & Technology and Public Relations at PROnetworks as well as Editor at Larry411.com
