My pics of “Walking with the Enemy” Q&A and Awards at 2013 Fort Lauderdale Film Festival + Trailer

On Sunday, November 10, 2013 I attended the thrilling Southeast Premiere of Walking with the Enemy, the Official Closing Night Film of the 2013 Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. The sold out event took place at the historic Cinema Paradiso in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was a selection in the American Indie Features section.

From writer/director/producer Mark Schmidt comes an epic motion picture inspired by a true story. Although allied with Germany, Regent Horthy (Ben Kingsley), the charismatic leader of Hungary, is faced with witnessing the execution of hundreds of thousands of Hungarian Jews he's been protecting. During this national crisis, a young hero, Elek Cohen (Jonas Armstrong) emerges. Aided by the woman he loves, he confronts the Nazis by becoming one of them. In a race against time to save his country's Jewish people, the Regent is forced to make difficult choices, while the couple embarks on a thrilling journey of love, courage, and sacrifice to save their families and thousands of others.

Walking with the Enemy was shot largely on location in Budapest and Bucharest. What started out as a modest $15 million budgeted film turned into an $80 million epic, and it shows. The picture is breathtaking and unflinching in its depiction of the horrors committed by the Nazis and their Hungarian sympathizers. Walking with the Enemy is not to be missed.

Writer/director/producer Mark Schmidt was brought onstage by FLIFF President and CEO Gregory von Hausch for an emotional and informative Q&A after the screening. Schmidt was joined by cast and crew including stars Jonas Armstrong, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, and Hannah Tointon, along with co-writer/producer/second unit director Randy Williams, composer Tim Williams, and cinematographer Dean Cundey. The FLIFF Awards followed, with Schmidt and Spencer-Longhurst accepting their plaques and trophies (see details below). Schmidt and Armstrong then posed with attendees and family members.

Here are some pictures I shot during the Q&A, awards presentations, and meet & greet:
