My pics of “Lion Ark” Q&A at 2013 Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival + Trailer

On Monday, October 28, 2013 I attended the exciting Florida Premiere of Lion Ark at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. The screening took place at the state-of-the-art Muvico Broward 18 in Pompano, Florida. The film was a selection in the World Cinema Documentary section.

From director/producer/star/co-writer Tim Phillips, with co-writer/producer/star Jan Creamer, this breathtaking production is more action adventure than traditional documentary. Lion Ark follows the world's most ambitious and daring animal rescue, with a narrative meticulously compiled from film, interviews, conversations, and the reactions of participants as events actually unfold.

A shocking undercover investigation leads to a ban on animal circuses in Bolivia. But the circuses defy the law. The team behind the investigation returns, tracks down the illegal circuses, and attempts to save every animal. The confrontations, heartache, and incredible risks the rescuers face are all captured on film. This is ultimately an uplifting story of bravery, compassion, camaraderie, and determination. Lion Ark shows us how a poor but proud country said "no" to cruelty and how attitudes to animals were changed across an entire continent.

The documentary features interviews with actress/Animal Defenders International Ambassador Jorja Fox (CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) and legendary game show host/animal activist Bob Barker, who financed much of the multi-million dollar operation depicted in the movie. Filmmaker Tim Phillips is Vice President/co-founder of Animal Defenders International (ADI), with offices in Los Angeles, London, and Bogota. His undercover filming has changed laws. He's filmed throughout the world, received death threats, and been attacked. Other dramatic rescues include seizing an entire circus in Mozambique and returning a chimpanzee from Chile to Africa.

Director/producer/star/co-writer Tim Phillips and producer/star/co-writer Jan Creamer engaged the audience in an informative and poignant discussion after the screening.

Here are some pictures I shot during the Q&A:
