OFFICIAL STILLS & POSTERS for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

It was back in March 2009 when I first announced here on this site that Logan Lerman would be taking over the lead role in the first film based on the popular five-part Percy Jackson & The Olympians book series from author Rick Riordan. Directed by Harry Potter's Chris Columbus, that movie, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, opened February 12, 2010 and made over $226 million worldwide at the box office.

Fans were then eagerly awaiting a greenlight for the second film in the series, knowing that Percy Jackson was planned as a potential franchise for distributor Twentieth-Century Fox. They waited...and waited...until rumors began to spread that there would be no "sequel" after all. Within the industry, however, that kind of talk made little sense. The picture was a success by any measure. The fact is, many factors have to come together before such a massive project can be officially underway. In order for a movie to go into development a quality script must be delivered. Then financing can be obtained and the wheels set in motion to move the film into the next stage of production.

On February 10, 2011 I received the long-awaited confirmation that the next film, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters (now titled Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters), was heading into the first development phase with the preparation of a script. Since I only had one source I did not post the news here but did mention it elsewhere. Needless to say, my information was met with skepticism. On March 1, 2011 I was able to confirm that production would proceed.

Fast forward to 2012, when filming finally got underway on April 14. Production wrapped July 17, 2012 and the film will be released on August 7, 2013, after more than a year of post-production. The first trailer debuted in theaters with The Host on Friday, March 29. It was available online Monday, April 1. The second trailer was released on Wednesday, May 29. Since then, several videos have been released, including one Japanese and one international trailer, a featurette with footage and behind-the-scenes interviews, and a TV spot. All the videos can be found HERE.
